What do I tutor?
My specialty subjects are elementary math, geometry, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, pre-calculus, and calculus. My services are available to all students, whether they come from a traditional public school, private school, home school, or college.
Age does not matter. As long as you are taking one of the courses above, I am ready to help you!

My focus as your tutor:
Mastery
Address challenges from class and clarify concepts you are currently learning. Foundations Look for gaps in core math skills and strengthen them so that transition to future math classes is smooth. Homework Review classwork, which must be completed by the student outside of our sessions. This ensures student accountability and maximizes learning. |
My Vibe & Teaching Philosophy
I'm here to help you! I love math, I love teaching it, and I think it's fun! Most people aren't excited about math like I am, and that's perfectly ok! However, since you're here looking for help, I think it's safe to say that we both care enough to at least do the best we can to reach your goals, whether it's just to pass a class to graduate, get a degree, or get that A. I'm here for you with a friendly and calm demeanor with constant encouragement to help you get where you want to be.
One of the most important requirements for tutoring to be effective is that the student must be willing to learn. In my experience, students ready to learn are the most successful. If they are not paying attention in class to begin with or not eager and disciplined to put in some extra time, then you will be wasting your time and money. I like to be up front about this because lots of parents think that hiring a tutor will magically get their student an A. My goal is to help students achieve that A, however, it is vital that they do their part outside of our sessions. Additionally, we need to be realistic about what can be achieved in one or two hours a week of tutoring, which is most common. I like to be clear about the fact that meeting once or twice a week for an hour is extremely helpful, but success is a team effort that involves teachers, tutors, students, and parents. Tutoring provides supplemental assistance to those already taking a math course, so depending on the pace of the course, the learning style and capability of the student, we may need more or less time to work together. There are various ways this can play out. I can tutor every day, a few times a week, or just once a week. In any case, remember that progress takes dedicated practice, and it's important to study independently outside of sessions to maintain skills and show progress. I like to relate academic success to riding a bike. You practice and practice until you know how to do it. Math is just like that, except it's exercise for the brain. It is certainly a subject where mastery is achievable, and you will get out exactly what you put into it. |
